Glitter Meets Water

Glitter Over Resin - On a fountain

Glittering on resin for longlasting results can be tricky. Adding submerged glitter in water takes tricky to a whole new level. The following project will show you how it can be done.

Skill level: Intermediate

Comments:

We used professional grade materials with this fountain. We wanted it to be able to go inside or outside and last a long time. There are other materials such as Outdoor Mod Podge, which would probably work for a shorter life-span. You would also want to scuff up the surface to make sure there was really good adhesion. It would not work in the fountain cups where the water goes. If you were only going to use the fountain inside, you might be able to skip the fiberglass resin and substitute in clear Epoxy. However, over time it is possible that the epoxy might cloud so be sure to run tests if this matters to you.

When working with Solvent Urethane and Fiberglass Resin, you will need high quality polyester glitters that are solvent resistant. The "floors" section of our site offers many color choices.

We use Ever Clear for the non submerged part of the fountain. It is great for indoor and outdoor exposure. Use a respirator!

There are other brands out there. This is the one we used. Please be aware that it is tinted. It will tend to change the color of your glitter. Run tests!

Search notes. When using the search feature it is best to skip using the word glitter. For example type in FLOOR instead of Glitter Floor.
