Glitter Meets A Classic

Glitter Painting- "The Wave"

Diza was inspired to create a glitter version of the famous Japanese painting called "The Wave". She takes you through step by step as she creates it.

Comments:

She used polyester metallic glitter for this painting in ultra fine flakes. When doing glitter paintings you can use other flake sizes as well as craft glitter. However, keep in mind that craft glitter can fade in the sun and the smallest the flake can go is fine .015. In poly, you can also use larger flakes than the ultra fine in polyester. It would really depend on your personal choice, design, how far away it is being viewed, and so forth. For close up wall or gallery pieces, you might be really happy with Ultra Fine flakes .008. You can do nice detailed work with that flake size.

Diza is a professional painter and chose to first paint with acrylic paint and then glitter over it. This really is the best way to go for extra rich colors. When you base coat, it is not necessary to have complete and total glitter coverage. A bit of paint showing through will fool the eye into thinking it is seeing total coverage. Base painting can also give a sense of depth, and allow you to choose a glitter a slightly different shade than the paint. This allows for a much more vibrant look.
