Glitter Walls- Five Application Techniques
Thinking about doing a glitter wall? They can be super pretty! Here are five application techniques that you might try.
Comments:
Toss: If you are trying for even coverage with this technique, you are in for a bit of a challenge. Stand farther back from your wall so you do not get the full coverage centers with the accent coverage elsewhere- like you see in the video.
Blow: If you do not have a lot of breath control you can also try using a hair dryer on low or a fan. The main issue with a fan/dryer is you now have to control another item besides the glitter and a board/plate. If you take this route- grab a friend and practice before you start on your wall. It is only good for accent coverage unless you really work at it.
Glitter Gun: Love it, great professional results. Just practice a bit before you start. The first crank can put out a bit of a splooch, but the next crank is nice and steady. Great for accent or full coverage.
Bounce: A lot of work for a wall but you can get some nice results with practice. We use it more for smaller projects. It is only good for accent coverage.
Brush On: Love it. We show Polycrylic in the video but our favorite medium is Glaze (shown below). Use a nice soft brush or your brush will scrape the glitter off the wall. You can do a few coats until you achieve the look you like. Make sure to use gloss. There is no need to do a final seal coat when you use this method. It is only good for accent coverage.
Important Note: It was said in the video but we will want say it again here. If you are going for FULL COVERAGE be sure to paint your wall the same color as the glitter. It makes all the difference in the world. In this video we do not on purpose. We want the camera to really see the flakes against the black.
Glitter Notes: We do not go into "glitter type to use" in this video as it is covered in other videos. However, here are two quick notes...
1. Craft glitter will fade in the sun. If your glitter wall will be getting a lot of natural light, use Polyester Glitter that is OK for UV/Sun (our brand has that info in the description).
2. "The bigger the flake, the bigger the sparkle" This is very true BUT there is also something called Standing Flake that you should know about before making your selection. See Video
