Glitter In Oil Based Spar Urethane
Another video from the Dog House series. In this video we are glittering and sealing the banisters on the upper platform- the "Poop Deck". This level is below the pirate ship so we wanted it to look like it was heavily sealed, like a sea going vessel. What better way to do this than with Gloss Spar Urethane. We did it and it turned out great.
Comments:
These banisters and rails were very lightly glittered. We did not want them to compete with the crazy sparkling ship above. Taking the steps we did in the video, you could simply add more glitter for a more dazzling finish. It is up to you! The urethane was thick enough where we did not need to do a seal coat. You can certainly feel the ultra fine flakes if you rub your hand over the banisters. However, the flakes do not come off in your hand. If you wanted a smoother feel (not really necessary for most applications) you could simply do a single seal coat (without glitter). This would reduce the sparkle so be sure to keep that in mind.
Note: Solvent Resistant Polyester Glitters must be used with Oil Based Spar Urethane. Some colors may react if allowed to sit in the urethane for long periods of time. It is best to mix in, coat on and allow to dry for best results.
